Box Score 2 Due West, SC – The Fling Fleet held Limestone to one run in two games to complete a Conference Carolinas series sweep of the Saints Saturday afternoon at Grier Field.
Game OneThe Erskine (32-11, 16-4) offense didn't waste any time as they exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) led off with a double down the left field line.
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would then reach on an infield single to put runners on first and third.
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would single to right, scoring Kozak and advancing Overstreet to third. After a ground out by
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) scored Overstreet,
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would single down the left field line scoring a run. The Fleet would add two more runs after a Limestone error to make it a 5-0 game. Erskine would add another run in the second on a RBI triple by Smith. Kozak would lead off the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on a single from Overstreet. He would then score on a sacrifice fly by Corn to increase the lead to seven.
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would lead off the fifth with a solo home run to round out the scoring, as the Fleet took the 8-0 win.
Corn and Smith both went 2-3 with two RBI's to lead the Fleet, while Overstreet also added two hits.
Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College) (7-1) threw a complete game shutout, striking out four to pick up the win.
Game TwoNeither team could get on the board in game two through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth pinch hitter Austin Marcellus would single up the middle with two outs and no one on. After a single by Julian Bridges, Marcellus would score on a base hit to left by Michael Newcomb. In the bottom half of the inning,
Tanner Lollis (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would lead off with a double to left center and would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt from Kozak. Lollis would score on a double down the right field line by Corn to tie the game at one. Smith would then give the Fleet the lead with a single to right center. Erskine would add four more runs in the sixth and hold on for the 6-1 victory.
Corn was 2-2 with two RBI's to lead the Fleet offense.
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) and Lollis added two hits each while Kozak drove in two runs.
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (5-2) picked up the win allowing five hits and striking out one in 4.1 innings pitched.
Erskine secured the second seed in next week's Conference Carolinas tournament and will play the fifth seeded Saints at 3:00 pm Thursday.
