Box Score Due West, SC – Erskine College defeated North Greenville University 10-4 in the opening game of their Conference Carolinas series Friday afternoon.
The Crusaders (7-31, 2-14) would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Taylor Hollifield drew a one out walk and scored on a double by Tyler Mitchell. North Greenville would hold the one run lead until the bottom of the fourth.
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off with a triple to left center and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game up.
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would then draw a walk and steal second. With two outs,
Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would draw a walk and
Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep) would hit an infield single to load the bases .
Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter) would then blast a grand slam over the left field wall to give Erskine (25-11, 11-4) a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Overstreet would hit a solo home run to left to increase the lead to five.
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would then hit a RBI double and score on a Crusader error to make it a 8-1 game. In the top of the sixth, Hollifield and Allen Staton would single and then Mitchell would drive a ball over the right field fence to cut the Fleet lead in half. Erskine would add a run in the sixth and in the eighth and held on for the victory.
Overstreet was 4-4 with three RBI's, while Wilson was 3-4 with a home run and four runs batted in.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) also added three hits while Galliher had two hits and a run batted in.
Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College) (6-1) picked up the win allowing four runs on seven hits and struck out three in seven innings of work.
Mitchell led the Crusaders at the plate going 2-4 with four RBI's and Staten was 2-4 with a run scored. Ben Cramm (1-3) took the loss allowing five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.
