Erskine Splits Double Header with Pfeiffer

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Misenheimer, NC – The Flying Fleet split a Conference Carolinas double header with Pfeiffer University Monday afternoon, winning game one 5-4 and losing the second game 12-6.

Game One

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) would lead off with a single and advance to second on a Pfeiffer error.  Joey Wilson (Charleston, SC, USC Sumter) would then single to center field with two outs to score Overstreet and tie the game.  The Falcons would respond with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead.  Pfeiffer (20-14, 9-5) would then add what looked to be an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth of the seven inning game.  Down to their last out, pinch hitter Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS) would draw a walk and Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would follow with another walk to bring the tying run to the plate.  Overstreet would then step to the plate and blast a three run home run over the left center field fence to tie the game at four.  With the game still tied in the top of the eighth inning, Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would lead off with a single and Wilson would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position.  With two outs, pinch hitter Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) would double down the right field line to score Galliher and give Erskine (21-8, 8-3) the lead.  Wes Schuler (Spartanburg, SC, USC Sumter) would pitch a perfect eighth inning to close the door and give the Fleet the win.

Overstreet led Erskine at the plate going 3-4 with a home run and three RBI's, while Galliher and Wilson each added two hits.  Schuler (2-0) picked up the win allowing just one hit and striking out one in two innings of work.

Game Two

Overstreet would pick up where he left off in game two, hitting a solo home run in the top of the first to give Erskine the early lead.  The Falcons would respond with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the fourth, Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) and Galliher each singled to lead off the inning.  Wilson would lay down his second sacrifice bunt of the day to move them into scoring position and Hanlon Maivelett would hit a sacrifice fly to score Corn and tie the game.  Galliher would later score on a wild pitch to give the Fleet a one run lead.  The lead would be short lived as Pfeiffer would respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead 4-3.  Overstreet would lead off the fifth with his third home run of the day to tie the game up at four.  The Falcons would then score eight runs over the next three innings to pull away and take the win.

Overstreet again led Erskine going 3-5 with a double, two home runs and two RBI's.  Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) was 3-5 with a home run and double, while Corn was also 3-5 with a double and run scored.  Schuler (2-1) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings of relief.

Erskine returns to action tonight as they travel to Anderson, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.
