Box Score 2 Aiken, S.C. – Erskine dropped two games this afternoon to USC-Aiken Pacers in non-conference softball action at J.H. Satcher Field. Erskine lost the first game 4 to 0 and dropped the nightcap 6 to 2.
Game One
Despite a lead-off single by freshman
Lydia Trexler (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School), Erskine managed just one more hit and was held scoreless by Pacers pitcher India Kornegay. Sophomore
Christine Long (Greer, SC, Greer High School) picked up the other hit, a single, in the sixth inning. Kornegay earned the win, striking out 15 and issuing just one walk.
Erskine pitcher
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) was locked in pitcher's duel with Kornegay through five innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Pacers' Hillary Stewart led off the inning with a solo home run. The next inning the Pacers tacked on three insurance as Stewart went deep again, this time a 3-run shot.
Game Two
The Pacers capitalized on a couple of mistakes by Erskine pitcher
Candace Fitch (Cherryville, NC, Burns High School), belting two home runs to score four of their six runs.
Erskine also scored their two runs via the long ball as
Kaitlyn Kerley (North Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School) launched a two-run shot after teammate
Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, Manning High School) just missed a home run of her own with a double off the wall. The Fleet had runners on base five of seven innings but could not produce the key hit.
Fitch took the loss, going the distance and surrendering six runs on eleven hits.
Erskine returns home for their next matchup this Saturday against conference foe Lees-McRae College. The first game begins at 1:00 p.m. with the second game to start at approximately 3 p.m.
