Erskine knocks off undefeated Pfeiffer 8 to 1

Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (11-5, 6-0) knocked the Pfeiffer University Falcons (14-1, 6-1) from the ranks of the undefeated, pounding the Falcons 8 to 1 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.

After the three doubles matches, the Fleet appeared to be in store for a close match.  Although the Fleet won two of three doubles matches, all three matches were competitive.  At #3 doubles,Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) and Haley Whatley (North Richland Hills, TX, Birdville High School) won 8 to 4 for the Fleet's first point.  After Pfeiffer prevailed at #2 doubles to tie the match, Erskine's #1 doubles team, Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague), slipped by Pfeiffer's Taylor Lindsey and Valeria Mendoza 9 to 8.

Erskine routed Pfeiffer in the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets.  Hallman surrendered just two games in her straight victory (6-2, 6-0) while Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) wasted little time in beating her opponent 6-0, 6-3.

Erskine now holds a one match lead over Pfeiffer with three conference games remaining.

Erskine will play in-state conference rival Limestone College this Saturday starting at noon.
