Due West, S.C. – Playing on the road this afternoon, the Erskine Flying Fleet fell to Jaguars of Georgia Regents University 5 to 4 in non-conference women's tennis action at the Newman Tennis Center.
After the three doubles matches, Erskine found themselves trailing GRU 2 to 1. Senior
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and junior
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) edged GRU's Aida Castany and Marie Vin 8 to 6 to earn the Fleet's point.
Erskine split the six singles matches, winning at #1, #3 and #5. After suffering her first loss of the season last week against St. Leo University, sophomore
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) prevailed in three sets over GRU's Julie Fontaine. Goyette won her match in straight sets while Hallman won her set as her opponent had to retire due to injury.
Freshman
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) lost a heart-breaker at #6 singles. After losing her first set, Polk rebounded to win the second set 7-5. In the tie-breaker set, Polk lost a marathon-long set 11-9.
Erskine will return to conference play this Saturday, hosting undefeated and co-conference leader Pfeiffer University (14-0, 6-0). Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
