Box Score 2 Mount Olive, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (9-13, 4-4) concluded their two day road trip this afternoon, splitting a double-header with the Barton College Bulldogs at Nancy Cassell Field on the campus of the University of Mount Olive. Erskine dropped the first game 6 to 3 but rebounded to win the second game 4 to 1.
Game One
Barton plated six runs in the first three innings to defeat the Flying Fleet 6 to 3. Erskine scored all their runs in the first inning thanks in part to a Barton fielding error and passed ball.
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) contributed an rbi single and
Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, Manning High School) pushed another run across with a sacrificed fly.
Barton scored their six runs in the second and third innings. In the second inning, Megan Kelly delivered the big blow, a grand slam, to give Barton a 4 to 3 lead. The next inning Barton's Amber Weaver provided the insurance runs with a two-run shot.
In the circle,
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) struggled, surrendering four runs over just 1.2 innings.
For Barton, Ashlyn Reagan went the distance, yielding just five hits while whiffing eight and walking one.
Hicks led the Flying Fleet at the dish, going a perfect 3 for 3.
Kaitlyn Kerley (North Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School) had the other Fleet hit.
Game Two
After yielding a run in the first inning, Erskine pitcher
Kaylin White (Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) tossed a two-hit shutout over the next six innings to earn the complete game victory.
At the plate, Erskine made the most of their five hits, scoring four runs. In the first, Erskine plated two runs off a squeeze bunt by Hicks and another sacrifice fly by Windham.
Erskine pushed another run across in the third. After a lead-off single by Hicks, Kerley delivered a two-out double to drive in Hicks. For Kerley, it was her second double of the game.
In the fifth, Trexler hit her second home run of the road trip, a solo shot to left field.
The doubleheader was played at the University of Mount Olive due to the poor field conditions at Barton College.
Erskine returns home to host Francis Marion University in a doubleheader next Tuesday. The first game starts at 2:00 p.m. with the second beginning at 4:00 p.m.
