Game One
Erskine scored all their runs via the long ball and senior
Katherine Mulzer (Donalds, SC, Dixie High School) shut down a late Trojan rally to earn her second save of the season.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning, junior
Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, Manning High School) crushed at two-run shot to trim the Trojan lead to one. For Windham it was her sixth home run of the season.
The next inning freshman
Lydia Trexler (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) drilled a three-run home run to give the Flying Fleet a two-run lead. It was Trexler's seventh home run of the season.
In the sixth inning, the Trojans threatened to regain the lead but Mulzer got the final out then retired the Trojans in the seventh to preserve the 5 to 4 win. With two outs and a person on first, the Trojans laced back-to-back singles off Erskine starter
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) to cut the Fleet lead to one. Mulzer entered the game and after surrendering a base hit induced a ground ball to end the Trojan rally. Mulzer retired three of the four batters she faced in the seventh to give the Fleet the 5 to 4 win.
Trexler finished 3 for 4 with the home run while
Taylor Fernandes (Lincolnton, GA, Lincoln County High School) and
Christine Long (Greer, SC, Greer High School) both had two hits apiece.
Game Two
Freshman pitcher
Candace Fitch (Cherryville, NC, Burns High School) tossed her first collegiate shutout, going the distance and yielding just seven hits, all singles. She struck out five and issued just one walk in earning her second win of the season.
Meanwhile the Flying Fleet banged out ten hits scoring three runs. Erskine tallied their first run in the second inning off an rbi single by
Kaitlyn Kerley (North Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School). The Fleet tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning off three doubles. Senior
Whitney Brown (West Columbia, SC, Airport High School) led off the inning with a double and
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) followed with another one scoring Brown. Following an out, Trexler blasted one to deep center field to score McCarson.
