Box Score 2 Due West, S.C. – Junior
Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, USC-Sumter) blasted three home runs, including two 3-run shots, to lead the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-12) to a sweep of visiting Emmanuel College Lions 7 to 3 and 11 to 2 this afternoon in non-conference softball action at the Erskine College Softball Complex.
Game One
Emmanuel College scored first on a three run home run by Kalen Calloway in the second inning. It would be the only mistake Erskine pitcher
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) would make. Newton went six strong innings surrendering the three runs on five hits while striking out nine and walking one. Senior
Katherine Mulzer (Donalds, SC, Dixie High School) pitched the last inning.
Offensively Erskine scored six of their seven runs via the long ball. Sophomore
Christine Long (Greer, SC, Greer High School) launched a deep two-run shot to left to trim the Emmanuel lead to one. For Long, it was her second home run of the season. The next inning freshman
Lydia Trexler (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) and Windham went back-to-back to plate four more runs. Trexler's blast, her sixth of the season, was a three-run shot and Windham greeted relief pitcher Leah Ritchhart with her fourth home run of year. The Fleet added one more run in the fourth inning.
Trexler,
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School), and
Taylor Fernandes (Lincolnton, GA, Lincoln County High School) led the Fleet attack with two hits each.
Game Two
Windham provided the two big blows in game two as Erskine won 11 to 2 in five innings. With the game tied 2 to 2, Windham deposited a long ball over the scoreboard in left field to put the Flying Fleet up 5 to 2. The next inning Windham went deep again with her second 3-run blast of the game to cap off a five run inning.
Erskine pitcher
Candace Fitch (Cherryville, NC, Burns High School) went four innings allowing two runs on five hits. Like Newton, her only mistake was two run home run to Madison Franklin in the second inning. For Fitch, it was her first collegiate win. Mulzer got the final three outs.
Erskine pounded out 11 hits in the game.
Jacquie Hill (North Augusta, SC, North Augusta High School), Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School), Windham and
Kaitlyn Kerley (North Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School) had two hits apiece.
Erskine will travel to play Barton and Mount Olive College next Monday and Tuesday.
