Box Score 2 Erskine's
Lydia Trexler (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School)Â crushed three home runs, including a grand slam, and threw out two runners at the plate as the Erskine Flying Fleet (4-13, 1-3) split a doubleheader (2-9, 13-8) with conference foe King University (8-9, 1-1) this afternoon in at the Erskine College Softball Complex.
Game One
King strung together five hits around two walks to explode for five runs in the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach for the Flying Fleet. In all, King pounded out 13 hits off of three Erskine pitchers to tally nine runs, eight earned.
Prior to that, Erskine was within two runs after two solo home runs by Trexler andÂ
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School). For Trexler, she led off the game with her fourth home run of the season while Hicks' home run came in the bottom of the fourth to trim the Tornado lead to 2.
Trexler saved two runs for the Fleet with two outstanding throws from center field. In the second inning, Trexler gunned down Chrissy Melcher as she tried to score from second on a hit up the middle by teammate Cassie Ringstaff. Two innings later Trexler saved another run. With bases loaded and no outs, Trexler threw out Tori McComas at the plate as she tried to score on Ringstaff's fly ball to center.
King's Hannah Light went the distance, limiting the Fleet to two runs on five hits. She struck out eight without issuing a walk.
FreshmanÂ
Danica Newton (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School)Â took the loss for the Flying Fleet, surrendering six runs, five earned, on seven hits.
Game Two
Trexler led an offensive explosion by the Fleet in game two, accounting for seven of the Fleet's thirteen runs. For the second game in a row, Trexler led off the game with a home run. Two innings later, Trexler took the first pitch from relief pitcher Hannah Light and deposited it over the left field fence for a grand slam.

Kathryn Windham (Manning, SC, Manning High School)Â provided the necessary insurance runs with a two-run opposite field shot.
Erskine scored a season-high 13 runs on 12 hits.

Erskine travels on Tuesday to play a pair of games against non-conference foe USC-Aiken. First game starts at 2:30 p.m. and the second game at 4:30 p.m.
