Box Score 2 Tuscaloosa, AL – One day after their series opening game against Stillman was cancelled due to snow, Erskine split a non conference double header with the Tigers Friday afternoon.
Game One
Stillman's offense would explode for four runs in the bottom of the third to break open a scoreless game. In the top of the fifth inning, Erskine (2-1) looked to have an opportunity to tie the game with the bases loaded and no one out with singles by
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS),
Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS) and a walk to
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS). Stillman (3-3) starter Tyler Simmons would then retire the next two batters, but pinch hitter
Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) would single to right field to make it a three run game. However, the Tigers would answer back in with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 6-1 game. The Fleet would add a run in the seventh when Galliher doubled to center field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS).
Zach McAllister (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) (0-1) took the loss allowing four runs on five hits and striking out three in three innings of work.
Game Two
Erskine would take the early lead in the first inning of game two, scoring two runs on one hit.
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would lead off with a walk and then scored on a ground out by
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS).
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) would later double to left to score Smith who had walked earlier in the inning to give the Fleet a 2-0 lead. The Tigers would answer in the bottom half of the inning with one run, but that would be as close as they would get. Erskine would score four in the top of the second to bust the game wide open, with RBI's from Kozak, Corn, Smith, and
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC).
Cothran led the Fleet at the plate with two doubles and two RBI's, while Overstreet and Corn each had a hit and two runs driven in.
JR Black (Greenville, SC, USC Sumter) (1-0) picked up the win allowing one earned run on one hit in 5.2 innings of work.
Erskine returns to action Tuesday as they host Georgia Regents University at 2:00 in non conference action.
