Florence, S.C. – Playing their first of three road games, Erskine narrowly upset #12 Francis Marion University, losing 6 to 3 this afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action at Kassab Courts.
All three doubles matches were tightly contested with FMU winning two of three. Erskine's
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and
Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) scraped out a win at #2 doubles match winning 8 to 6. At #1 doubles, #16 ranked Julia Graf and Nora Westbye required a tie-breaker to defeat Erskine's doubles pair of
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) and, at #3 doubles, Kaitlyn Siney and Kimberley Hurter barely defeated Erskine's
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Mollie Polk (Round O, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) 8 to 6.
Erskine played well in the six singles matches, but managed just two wins. Polk remained undefeated in her collegiate singles career winning in three sets while Elliot also won her match in straight sets 6-2 and 6-4.
McDonald forced her match to three sets but lost the decisive third set 6-4.
Erskine lost the other three singles matches in straight sets.
On Friday Erskine will play Barton beginning at 2:00 p.m.
