Box Score Due West, SC – Eleven different hitters had at least one hit as the Flying Fleet defeated Benedict College 18-4 Wednesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.
Erskine (5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when
Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) led off with a triple then scored on a sacrifice fly by
Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC). Benedict (0-5) would respond with three runs in the second to take the lead.
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) would hit an opposite field home run to make it a one run game. The Tigers would answer with a run in the third to make the score 4-2. The Fleet would then explode for 16 runs over the next four innings to blow the game wide open.
Galliher led the Fleet offense going 3-4 with a double, home run, and three RBI's, while
Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) was 2-3 with a home run and six runs batted in. Kozak,
Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) and
Destin Nichols (Tampa, FL, Berkley Prep) all added two hits each in the victory.
Joe Johnson (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood High School) (1-0) picked up the win pitching two innings of scoreless relief.
Erskine will return to action Friday as they host Salem International for a double header starting at 1:00 pm.
