Fleet Bats Explode in 14-1 Victory Over Newberry

Box Score Due West, SC – After an eight day layoff, the Erskine offense exploded for 10 runs in the first two innings and went on to a 14-1 victory over Newberry Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

In the bottom of the first, Andrew Kozak (Sidney, NY, Hudson Valley CC) would lead off with a single and then score on Chase Corn's (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) first home run of the season.  Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) would follow with a solo blast to make it a 3-0 game.  Erskine (4-1) would then explode for seven runs in the second to break the game open.  The big blasts for the Fleet were a two run double by Brandon Overstreet (Stuart, FL, Herkimer CC) and a three run home run by Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS)

Corn led Erskine at the plate going 3-4 with a triple, home run and three RBI's, while Dix was 3-3 with a home run and three runs driven in and Kozak added two hits.  Landon Dickerson (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) (1-0) picked up his first career win, pitching two scoreless innings of relief and striking out two.

Eric Barbieri, JoJo Bradley, and Nolan Schrenker had one hit each for Newberry (7-4), while Jermale Paige drove in the only run for the Wolves.  Will Robbins (1-1) took the loss allowing five earned runs on six hits in 1.1 innings of work.

The Fleet return to action tomorrow as they host Benedict College at 2:00 pm.
