Morrow, GA – After a week off, the Erskine Women's Tennis returned to the court to defeat #8 regionally ranked Clayton State University 7-2 Saturday afternoon.
Erskine took an early 2-1 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. At #1 doubles,
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortague) edged past Zinnia Leamana and Martina Dedaj 8-6. Due to Clayton State only have five healthy players, the Flying Fleet also won at #3 doubles by default in addition to #6 singles.
Erskine continued their strong play in the six singles matches, winning four in straight sets and the fifth by default. Sophomore
Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) breezed through her match at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 while sophomore
Haley Elliott (Simpsonville, SC, Mauldin High School) disposed of her competition 6-4, 6-3. Both Hallman and Goyette needed a tie-breaker in their second set before winning their matches.
In a rescheduled match from earlier this season, Erskine will now play #12 nationally ranked Francis Marion University this Thursday starting at 2:30 p.m.
