Columbia, SC – The Erskine Men's Cross Country used a team effort to finish 2
nd out of 6 teams in the Gamecock Cross Country Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina this afternoon.
The Fleet had their top three runners finish within four seconds of each other. Freshman
James Gregory (Indian Land, SC, Indian Land High School) led the Fleet finishing in 6
th place with a time of 17:23.00, just .11 seconds ahead of teammate
Richard Borrero (Orlando, FL, Cypress Creek High School) and 3.25 seconds ahead of fellow freshman
Vincent Harris (Vero Beach, FL, Sebastian River High School). Sophomore
Dustin Corder (Lexington, SC, Pelion High School) and freshman
Tyler Hansen (Pendleton, SC, Pendleton High School) rounded out the scoring for the Flying Fleet, completing the course in times of 18:07 and 19:23 to finish in 12
th and 17
th place.
Carlos Unda (Hendersonville, NC, Hendersonville Christian Academy),
Nick Westhead (Anderson, SC, Pendleton High School), and
David Nelson (Babson Park, FL, Lake Wales High School) also ran, finishing in 22nd, 24
th, and 38
th place respectively.
Savannah School of Art and Design won the race taking the top three spots. Jonathan Riley won the race in 16:15.43, a full thirty seconds ahead of teammate Aesop Brown.
Erskine will take to the trail again in two weeks at the Winthrop Open on September 21
st.
