Rhodes wins Will Wilson Citadel Invitational; sets school record

Charleston, S.C. – Junior Marlee Rhodes (Williamston, SC, Palmetto High School) won the Division II portion of the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational in leading the women's cross country team to a second place finish while the men's team placed three runners in the top 10 to also secure a 2nd place finish.

Rhodes ran the 5k course in a school-record 19:18, almost a full minute ahead of the second place finisher, Jonnise Pierce of Benedict.

Sophomore Amelia Chassevent (Fountain Inn, SC, Insights on Education) as the second Fleet runner to cross the finish line, finishing sixth with a time of 21:08.  Rachel Whitmire (Pendleton, SC, T.L. Hanna High School)Chelsea Ball (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School), and Abigail Butler (Summerville, SC)  finished in 13th, 15th and 19th place respectively.  Butler just edged teammate April Bussey (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School).  Ana Unda (Hendersonville, NC, Hendersonville Christian Academy) came in 22nd place.

Fellow conference member North Greenville University won the team event with 34 points.

On the men's side, Richard Borrero (Orlando, FL, Cypress Creek High School)James Gregory (Indian Land, SC, Indian Land High School) and Vincent Harris (Vero Beach, FL, Sebastian River High School) all finished with twenty seconds of each other to finish in 4th, 5th and 7th place respectively.  Dustin Corder (Lexington, SC, Pelion High School) and Tyler Hansen (Pendleton, SC, Pendleton High School) came in 14th and 17th place to round out the scoring for the Fleet.

NGU also won the men's team competition with 30 points.

Erskine will run in two weeks at the Royal Challenge at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
