Box Score 2 Due West, S.C. – Sophomore
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) powered Erskine to a split with first-place Limestone College today in Conference Carolinas softball action. McCarson launched her third home run of the week, a two-run shot, to propel Erskine past Coker 7 to 3 in game one. In the second game, McCarson crushed her fourth homer of the week, 6
th on the season, to lead off the second game but it was not enough as Erskine fell 6 to 4 in the nightcap. In the two games, McCarson was 5 for 9 with two home runs, 3 RBIs, and 4 runs scored, from her leadoff position.
Game One
McCarson and
Morgan Purcell (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) each hit a two-run home run to give Erskine an early 4-0 lead. After surrendering an unearned run in the fifth, Erskine tacked on three more runs on four hits, including three in a row with two outs. McCarson had three hits while Purcell and
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) had two hits each.
With the run support,
Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) attacked the Limestone batters, limiting them to just five hits over seven innings. She struck out four and walked two in earning her eighth win of the season.
Game Two
Erskine again used the long ball to put runs on the board in game two. With Coker scoring two runs in their half of the first, McCarson cut their lead in half with her second home run on the day and her sixth of the year. Three innings later,
Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School) launched her tenth bomb of the year, a 3-run shot that tied the game at 4 to 4.
Coker got a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. The Cobras scored the go-ahead run on a double-steal of second and home and Paige Bolding added an insurance run in the sixth on a solo shot.
Erskine threatened to score in the fifth and seventh but Coker pitcher Leah Quant pitched around both jams to secure her ninth victory of the season. She surrendered four runs on eight hits while striking out five and issuing just one walk.
McCarson had two more hits, including the home run, while
Jordan Suther (Loganville, GA, South Gwinnett High School) was a perfect 3 for 3.
Heather Richey (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) took the loss for the Fleet allowing six runs on eight hits. She fanned five and walked four.
Erskine hosts conference opponent Belmont Abbey in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
