Brevard, NC – The Flying Fleet scored three runs in the top of the 12
th inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on for the 6-3 victory over Brevard College Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth,
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would blast a one out solo home run to right center to cut the lead in half.
Teddy Heiser (Chicago, IL, College of Lake County) would then reach on an error and then later scored in a single by
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) to tie the game at two for Erskine (21-15). Brevard (12-27) would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning to again regain the lead. In the top of the eighth inning,
Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS) would pinch hit for Heiser and double down the right field line. He would then score on a single up the middle by
Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) to again tie the game up. The score would remain tied for the next three innings, although each team had chances to score.
In the top of the 12
th,
Connor Gibson (Greer, SC, Riverside High School) would beat out an infield single with one out.
Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) would then reach on an error that allowed Gibson to move up to third and Herring to second. The Tornados would then intentionally walk Corn for the second straight time bringing Huff to the plate. Huff would then line a triple into the right center field gap to clear the bases and give Erskine the lead.
Dustin Sherbert (Mayo, SC, Chesnee HS) (3-3) would pitch a scoreless 12
th to close the game out.
Huff came off the bench to lead the Fleet at the plate going 2-3 with a double, triple and three RBI’s while Corn was 2-4 with a home run.
