Erskine smashes Coker 5-0 in opening round of conference tourney

Sumter, S.C. – In the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament, the #1 seed Flying Fleet smashed the #8 seed Cobras of Coker College 5 to 0 to advance to tomorrow’s semi-final round.

Erskine blitzed through the doubles matches, easily winning all three.  Erskine’s Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) and Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) quickly sealed the victory by winning their respective singles matches by the identical score of 6-0, 6-1.  In tournament play, matches are only played until one team reaches 5 points.  At that point, all the other matches are suspended.

Erskine advances to face the #5 seed Trojans of Mt. Olive College tomorrow in the semi-final round starting at noon.  The Trojans upset the #4 seed Falcons of Pfeiffer University 5 to 1 in their opening match.  Earlier this season, Erskine had defeated Mt. Olive College 9-0.
