Milledgeville, GA – Every player in the Erskine College line up had at least one hit as the Flying Fleet defeated Georgia College 17-6 Wednesday night in non conference baseball action.
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would start the game off with a bang as he took the first pitch of the game over the right field fence to put Erskine (25-21) up 1-0.
Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) would then follow with a single and advance to third on a double by
Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS).
Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) would then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Maivelett. After a walk to
Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS),
Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS) would double to left centerfield driving in Willingham and giving Erskine a three run lead.
Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) would later double to left centerfield to score Huff and Spence to make it a 5-0 game. In the top of the second, Corn would lead off with a walk and then back to back singles from Maivelett and Willingham would load the bases. Galliher would then single to left to score Corn and Maivelett. Later in the inning, Spence would hit his second double in as many innings to score Willingham and Galliher to make the score 9-0. The Fleet would go on to score eight more runs over the next five innings to take the victory.
Willingham was a perfect 4-4 with a double and three RBI’s, while Maivelett was 4-5 with three runs driven in to lead the offense. Herring was also 3-6 with a double and two RBI’s and Galliher and Spence each drove in three runs.
Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College) (1-0) picked up the win allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out five in six innings of work.
