Box Score 2 Anderson, S.C. – Erskine dropped two games to archrival Anderson University 6-3 and 10-0 in non-conference softball action at Smethers Field.
Seniors
Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School) and
Morgan Purcell (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) hit back-to-back home runs but Anderson got a three-run blast from Bailey Smith to down the Flying Fleet 6 to 3 in game one. Smith’s blast came in Anderson’s half of the third right after Shannon and Purcell had hit their bombs in the top of the third.
Anderson’s Lauren Bell did not allow another run until the top of the seventh with the Trojans already leading 6 to 2.
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) delivered an RBI single to score Shannon. Bell limited Erskine to just five hits through seven innings in earning her 20
th win of the season.
Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) and
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) accounted for the other two Fleet hits.
Anderson sent ten batters to the plate in the first inning of game, scoring seven runs, and added three more runs in the fourth on a three-run shot by Abby Child. With a commanding lead, Smith cruised to the five inning shutout victory allowing just two hits, one each to Hicks and
Lindsay Waters (Simpsonville, SC, James L. Mann High School).
Erskine travels to Bristol, Tennessee, tomorrow to wrap up their regular season against conference-leading King College. First game starts at 3:00 p.m.
