Box Score 2 Charlotte, N.C. – Erskine was swept on the road by Queens University 4-0 and 6-5 in Conference Carolinas softball action at Park Road Park. With the two losses, Erskine slipped to 11-17-2 overall and 7-6-1 in conference.
In the first game, Erskine was limited just four hits off Queen’s pitcher Ashley Rollins. Rollins, who struck out three and walked three, did a great job mixing up her pitches to keep the Fleet batters off balance.
Jordan Suther (Loganville, GA, South Gwinnett High School),
Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School),
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School)and
Colleen Gardner (Matthews, NC, Butler High School) all had one hit a piece for the Fleet.
In the nightcap, Erskine committed three fielding errors that resulted in two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh. After a walk to the leadoff batter, the Fleet mishandled a sacrifice bunt attempt allowing the leadoff batter to score from first to win the game 6 to 5. Earlier after tying the game at 2-2, Erskine gave up their first unearned run on a fielding miscue.
Erskine pounded out seven hits, including three doubles, to score five runs. Gardner and Shannon had two hits each, including a double while
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) went 1 for 4 with an RBI double.
Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School) and
Lindsay Waters (Simpsonville, SC, James L. Mann High School) had the other two Fleet hits.
Erskine plays their fourth doubleheader in as many days travelling to Lees-McRae College on Thursday. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m.
