Erskine corrals USC-Aiken 6-3

Due West, S.C. – Stepping out of conference play today, Erskine downed the Pacers of USC-Aiken 6 to 3 in women’s tennis action at the USC-Aiken Tennis Complex.  For the Flying Fleet (6-2), it was their sixth consecutive win while the Pacers (8-4) drop their second straight.

Erskine won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into the six singles matches.  Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) prevailed at #1 doubles 8 to 5 while seniors Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) won at #3 doubles 8-4.

Erskine won the first four singles matches as Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy), Victoria Stephens, Corin Hallman, and Mika Goyette all won in straight sets.  Both Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and Abby O’Reilly lost in three sets.

Erskine will go on the road to play another Peach Belt Conference member, Clayton State University, on Monday.  Clayton State is currently ranked 10th in the region and 50th in the nation.
