Box Score 2 Due West, S.C. – Erskine’s
Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) spun a four hit complete game shutout to win the first game 1-0 then earned the win in relief as teammate
Whitney Brown (West Columbia, SC, Airport High School) hit a walk-off solo home run in the Fleet’s 3 to 2 victory in the second game over the visiting Bulldogs of Barton College this afternoon in Conference Carolinas softball action at the Erskine College Softball Complex.
Spurrier was masterful in the first game, allowing just four hits, all singles, while striking out ten and walking two.
Erskine scored their lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by
Jordan Suther (Loganville, GA, South Gwinnett High School). The Fleet had two runners gunned down at home trying to score.
Lindsay Waters (Simpsonville, SC, James L. Mann High School)was the only Fleet batter to record two hits. She also had a stolen base.
Autumn Pittman took the complete game loss for the Bulldogs. She allowed the one earned run while scattering eight hits. She struck out three and walked one.
In game two, Erskine’s
Kaylin White (Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) also had a four hit shutout through six innings. In the seventh, Barton got a lead-off walk and, after a fly ball, got back-to-back hits, including an RBI double by Amanda Schatz to chase White from the game. Spurrier recorded the next two outs but not before surrendering a sacrifice fly to Taylor Barker to plate the second Barton run.
Brown quickly ended the game by driving the ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season and the 3 to 2 victory.
Spurrier picked up the win in relief to even her record at 4-4 on the season.
Barton’s Liz White took the loss, going 6 plus innings and surrendering 3 runs, two earned, on 7 hits. She whiffed five and walked one.
Erskine plays archrival Anderson University this Monday at 3 p.m.
