Erskine Falls to North Greenville 7-5

Tigerville, SC – The Flying Fleet lost their Conference Carolinas series opener to North Greenville 7-5 Friday afternoon.

The Crusaders (9-8, 2-2) took the lead in the bottom of the first.  After back to back singles by Tyler Mitchell and Adam Taylor, Allen Staton hit a home run over the left field fence.  In the top of the second, Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) led off with a single and then scored on a home run by Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) to make it a 3-2 game.  In the top of the fourth, Galliher would lead off with a walk and advance to second on a single by Cothran.  Galliher would later score when Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS) singled and the left fielder misplayed the ball.  After Erskine (13-8, 2-4) tied the game, North Greenville responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-3 game.  The Fleet would cut the lead in half in the sixth inning when Cothran singled scored on a home run by Austin Gambrell (Belton, SC, Spartanburg Methodist College).  Erskine would not be able to score again as the Crusaders took the win.

Cothran led the Fleet at the plate going 3-4 with a home run and two RBI’s, while Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) was 2-5 with a double.  Taylor Wall (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Prep HS) (2-1) took the loss allowing seven runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work.

The two teams will conclude their series with a double header tomorrow starting at noon.
