Hilton Head, S.C. – Northwood University (18-1) slipped past Erskine (8-5) 5-4 this afternoon in the non-conference women’s tennis action.
The Flying Fleet found themselves down 2-1 after the doubles matches. Freshmen
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and
Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) lost a tight match 8-6 at #2 doubles while seniors
Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and
Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) won their equally close match 9-7 to score the Fleet’s first point.
The two teams split the six singles matches to give Northwood the 5-4 win. Sophomore
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) prevailed in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 at #4 singles while both O’Reilly and McDonald rallied to win their two matches in three sets. After splitting her first two sets, junior
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) lost her match in a marathon third set 11-9.
Erskine plays their second game of their spring trip to Hilton Head tomorrow against St. Olaf College.
