Erskine Baseball Splits with Pfeiffer

Due West, SC – Erskine split their Conference Carolinas double header with Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons won game one 2-0, but the Fleet rebounded for a 12-8 victory in game two.

Game One

In a pitcher’s duel, Pfeiffer (5-13, 2-2) would strike early to take the lead.  Izzy Perez would single and then score on a home run by Dalton Lindley to take a 2-0 lead.  The Fleet (11-6, 2-3) had chances to tie the game in the fourth and fifth inning, but could not score and Pfeiffer would hold on for the win.

Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) was the lone player on either team with multiple hits, going 2-3.  Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS), Richard Dix (Clemson, SC, Daniel HS), Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS), and Zack Jones (Anderson, SC, TL Hanna High School) each added a hit for the Fleet.  Heath Gray (Greer, SC, Byrnes HS) (3-2) took the loss allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.

Game 2

With the game tied at three in the seventh inning, the Falcons would score three runs to take a 6-3 lead.  The Erskine offense would wake up and explode for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.  With runners at second and third, Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would triple down the right field line to make it a one run game.  He would later score on a single by Galliher and then Willingham would line a double to right center field to give Erskine the lead.  Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS) would blast a three run home run to cap the scoring for Erskine make it an 11-6 game. 

Willingham once again led the Fleet offense going 3-3 with a double and RBI, while Dix was 2-4 with a double and two runs driven in and Spence added two hits.  Joe Johnson (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood High School) (1-0) picked up his first college win allowing two unearned runs on one hit and striking out three in 2.2 innings of relief work.

Erskine returns to action on Monday, as they have added a double header with Lake Erie to make  up for two earlier rain outs.  Game time is slated for 1:00.
