Greenwood, SC – The Flying Fleet lost 8-3 to #2 Lander University Tuesday night in non conference baseball action.

Erskine (18-10) would take the lead in the top of the second inning when Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS) led off with a double and then scored when Sam Cothran (Williamston, SC, Palmetto HS) reached on an error.  The lead would be short lived for the Fleet.  In the bottom half of the inning Colby Painter would draw a one out walk and score on a double by Aaron Poole to tie the game.  Poole would then score on a single by Ian Harvey to give the Bearcats (22-4) the lead.  Lander would add a run to their lead in the fourth when Harvey doubled to score Jeff May.  The Fleet would respond with two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game up.  Hanlon Maivelett (Aiken, SC, Aiken HS) would lead off with a single and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zack Jones (Anderson, SC, USC Sumter).  Following a walk by Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS), Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) would single to center scoring Maivelett and sending Corn to third.  With two outs, Willingham would attempt a steal and get into a rundown allowing Corn to score and tie the game at three. The Lander offense would explode for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to break the tie and take an 8-3 lead.

Willingham led the Fleet at the plate going 1-3 with one run driven in, while Corn was 1-3 with a run scored.  Alex Rhodes (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood High School) (0-2) took the loss allowing five unearned runs in two innings of relief work.

The Fleet return to action as the travel to Barton for a Conference Carolinas series this weekend.
