Box Score 2 Florence, S.C. – Erskine lost two games this afternoon to #22 ranked Francis Marion University 3-2 and 4-2 in non-conference women’s softball action at FMU Softball Stadium.
Erskine lost the first game on a walk-off single by FMU’s Tristan Faile after Kristie Hanewickel led off the inning with a triple.
Senior
Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) took the complete game loss, giving up 3 runs, all earned, on eight hits. She struck out one and walked three.
Offensively, Erskine tied the game 2-2 in the sixth inning. Senior
Jordan Suther (Loganville, GA, South Gwinnett High School)started the inning with a base hit to right and advanced to second on a sacrifice by
Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School). Suther scored on Larissa Shannon’s double to right center.
Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School)came around to tie the game on a single by
Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School). Suther, Shannon and Hicks each had two hits.
An Erskine fielding error in the third inning cost the Fleet two runs as they lost 4-2 in the nightcap.
Colleen Gardner (Matthews, NC, Butler High School) and
Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School) led the Fleet at the plate with two hits each.
Katherine Mulzer (Donalds, SC, Dixie High School) tossed an excellent game, allowing the 4 runs, two earned, on seven hits over 5 innings. Freshman
Kaylin White (Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) pitched a shutout inning in relief.
Erskine travels to Pfeiffer University this Friday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
