Due West, S.C. – Erskine lost 6 to 3 to #10 Francis Marion University today to open their 2013 season in non-conference women’s tennis action at the Erskine Tennis Complex.

The Fleet fell behind 2-1 after the doubles matches.  Senior Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and freshman Lauren Schulte (Spicewood, TX, Lake Travis High School) combined to win 8-4 while the other two Fleet pairs fell 8-3 and 8-1.

Erskine played well in all six single matches despite only winning two matches.  Junior Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) prevailed in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 over her opponent while sophomore Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) stormed back to win her final two sets 6-3, 6-3 after losing the first set 4-6.  Freshman Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled), playing at #1 singles, fought hard her in match but faced a tough opponent in Mona Blauen from FMU.  She lost her match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

Erskine will look for their first win this Friday when they travel to play North Georgia College.  Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
