Greenville, S.C. – After playing two top 50 and one NCAA Division I opponent, Erskine throttled in-state conference rival the Valkyries of Converse College 9-0 in women’s tennis action at the Furman University Indoor Tennis Facility.
Originally scheduled to be played in Spartanburg, the two teams agreed to move the match to the indoor facility at Furman University due to the heavy rain the Upstate region of South Carolina.
After warming up in doubles play, winning all three matches, the Flying Fleet crushed the Valkyries in singles play surrendering only four game points in all six singles matches. Sophomore
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) and freshmen
Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and
Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy)did not yield a game winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Erskine evens their record at 2-2 and 2-0 in conference while Converse remains winless at 0-5 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Erskine was to play conference foe Pfeiffer University today but that match was postponed due to the heavy rain still in the area. The match will now be played on April 15
th.
On Monday, Erskine travels to Wingate, North Carolina, to play their third national ranked opponent in Wingate University. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
