Erskine crushes conference rival Queens 9-0

Due West, S.C. – Erskine picked up their first win of the season in grand fashion, crushing their top conference rival Queens University 9-0 this afternoon in women’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.

Erskine (1-2, 1-0) set the tone early in the match by capturing all three doubles matches.  Seniors Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) cruised at the #3 doubles position, topping their opponents handily 8-1.  Freshmen Miranda Guthrie (Suwanee, GA, Home-schooled) and Sarah McDonald (Cottageville, SC, Colleton Preparatory Academy) outlasted Morgan Roberts and Amanda Poole 8 to 5 while at #1 doubles Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) combined to upset regionally ranked #10 doubles pair Christina Rustcheff and Erin Williams 8-4.

Erskine continued to dominate the match in the singles matches as well, winning all but one in straight sets.  Hallman upset Rustcheff, who was ranked #15 in region, in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) while McDonald shutout Paige Earnest 6-0, 6-0.  Senior Abby O’Reilly bounced back after dropping her first set 5-7 to win her second set 6-2 and the tie-breaker set 10-7.

Erskine plays two conference matches this weekend.  On Friday Erskine travels to Converse College then returns home on Saturday to host the Falcons of Pfeiffer University.
