Box Score 2 Young Harris, Ga. – Erskine dropped two games today to Young Harris College losing 4-2 and 2-1 in non-conference women’s softball action at E.D. Rivers Field.
In game one, Erskine struck first but failed to hold the lead. The Flying Fleet (2-4) scored the game’s first two runs in the first inning. With two outs, junior Ashlyn Hicks doubled home Ericka McCarson and Lindsey Waters.
In the fourth inning, Young Harris’ Jen Spralding cut the lead in half with a one-out solo home run.
In the next inning, Young Harris took the lead, scoring three runs, all with two outs. Paige Sexton slipped a seeing-eye single into left to score two runs then scored on Kayla Jones’ double.
Erskine had runners on base every inning but Young Harris pitcher Katie-Jo Gentry escaped each time. Gentry earned the complete game victory allowing the two runs on eight hits while striking out three and issuing three free passes.
Erskine’s Kelsey Spurrier took the complete game loss, surrendering four runs on seven hits. She struck out four and walked two.
In the nightcap, Erskine was on the short-end of a classic pitcher’s duel, losing 2-1. Young Harris’ Darby Stanford gave up one run on four hits in earning the complete game victory. She also struck out eight and walked two.
Meanwhile Erskine’s Kat Mulzer also went the distance but a defensive miscue cost the Flying Fleet two unearned runs.
Erskine will look to snap a three-game losing slide this Wednesday when the Pacers of USC-Aiken visit Due West. First pitch of the double-header is set for 2:00 p.m.
