Augusta, GA – The Flying Fleet held off a late rally by Augusta State to defeat the Jaguars 8-6 Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

After three full scoreless innings, Erskine (31-23) would score three runs in the fourth to take the lead.  Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) led the inning off with a single to left field and then later scored on a double by Brandon Wooten (Taylors, SC, Blue Ridge HS) to plate the first Fleet run.  Erskine would add two more runs on a RBI single by Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) and a RBI ground out by Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS).  In the fifth inning, Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman HS) and Willingham would hit back to back solo home runs to increase the lead to five.  The Fleet would add three more runs in the seventh on a RBI single from Willingham and a two run double by Huff to make it an 8-0 game.  The Jaguars would score six runs in the final two innings to make it a two run game, but Evan Howard (Thomson, GA) would shut down the rally and pick up his third save of the season.

Willingham led the Fleet at the plate going 3-4 with a home run and two RBI’s, while Danielewicz and fellow senior Zac McCarthy (Lyman, SC, Byrnes HS) had two hits each.  Heath Gray (Greer, SC, Byrnes HS) picked up his team leading seventh win of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out six in six shut out innings.
