Game One – Box Score

Junior Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School) hit a massive two-run home run in the first inning and the Fleet scored three runs in the second on a two-run double by Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) and a rbi single by Lindsay Waters (Simpsonville, SC, James L. Mann High School) as the Fleet held on to win game one 5-4.

Carson-Newman rebounded to score three runs in their bottom of the first on a home run by Caitlyn Lance and added another run in the 4th on an rbi single by Shelby Robertson.  The Eagles had the tying run in scoring position in each of the last three innings but Erskine pitcher Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) worked out of trouble each time.

Spurrier went the distance to earn her eighth win of the season.  She surrendered four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking a season-high six batters.

For Shannon, it was her thirteenth home run of the year and was subsequently walked her next two plate appearances.
Waters was the only Fleet player to have multiple hits going 2 for 4 scoring one run and driving in another.

Game Two – Box Score

Similar to the first game, Erskine scored two runs in the first; this time on a double by Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School) to plate Shannon and Morgan Purcell.  The Fleet picked up an unearned run in both the second and fifth innings but lost 5-4.

Erskine committed two defensive miscues resulting in five unearned runs.  Carson-Newman got one run back in their half of the first.  After the lead-off batter reached base on an error, Erskine pitcher Heather Richey (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) retired the next two batters but Lance ripped a solid single to score the Eagles first unearned run.

The big blow came in the fourth inning.  With two outs and two on, Erskine committed a throwing error to load the bases.  The next batter Sara Kelley hit a bases clearing double and Mary Shealy followed with single to score Kelley.  After a pitching change, Katherine Mulzer (Donalds, SC, Dixie High School) got Cassie Elliott to ground out to end the inning.

Richey took the loss going 2.2 innings allowing five unearned runs on five hits while walking one.

Shannon was walked in her first three plate appearances, giving her five walks on the day.

Erskine returns to conference play on Wednesday, travelling to Belmont, North Carolina, to play Belmont-Abbey College.  First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
