Box Score

Due West, SC – Limestone scores six runs on 12 hits to take a 6-2 victory over the Flying Fleet in the Conference Carolinas series opener Friday afternoon. 

Neither team could score through the first four innings, but Limestone would plate two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead.  Zach Howard would lead off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and then score on a double by Michael Hughey, and then he would score on a single by Josh Lyon.  In the bottom of the sixth Josh Purvis (Valdosta, GA, Armstrong Atlantic University) would reach base on a Limestone error and then later score on a single by Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) to make it a 2-1 game.  The Saints would explode for four runs in the top half of the seventh and hold on for the victory.

Corn led the Fleet at the plate going 2-4 with two RBI’s, while Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) finished 2-4 on the day.  Heath Gray (Greer, SC, Byrnes HS) (5-3) took the loss allowing six runs on 12 hits in 8.1 innings pitched
