Game One – Box Score

Erskine scored four runs in the last two innings to break a 1-1 tie to win 5-1 over the Pioneers.  Erskine plated their first run in the fourth inning on an rbi single by Colleen Gardner (Matthews, NC, Butler High School) to score Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School).  In the sixth inning, Thornton got her second hit of the game, a solo home run, to put the Fleet up 2-1.  It was her fifth homer of the year.  Erskine erupted for three runs in the seventh as Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School) and Morgan Purcell (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) went back-to-back to give the Fleet the 5-1 victory.  For Shannon, it was her 10th home run of the year and the fourth for Purcell.

In the circle, junior Kelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) went the distance allowing just one run on three hits to earn her sixth win of the season.

Game Two – Box Score

Tusculum scored five runs to knock Erskine pitcher Heather Richey (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) from the circle.  Richey went 3.2 innings giving up five runs on six hits.  Katie Brennan provided the knock-out blow with a two-run triple in the fourth.

Trailing 5-1 entering the seventh inning, Erskine loaded the bases and scored three runs before Tusculum could get the final out.  Entering the game as a pinch-hitter, Spurrier stroked a single through the right-side to score Brooke Benson (Greenville, SC, Berea High School).  Freshman Ericka McCarson (Travelers Rest, SC, Travelers Rest High School) laced another single scoring two this time to make the score 5-4.  Following an infield single by Lindsay Waters (Simpsonville, SC, James L. Mann High School) to reload the bases, Tusculum’s Elizabeth Johnson got Shannon to pop up for the final out to earn her 23rd victory of the year.

In the fourth inning, Shannon had hit her conference-leading 11th home run for the Fleet’s first run of the game.

Erskine travels to Gaffney, South Carolina, to face Limestone College on Friday.
