Game One – Box Score

Erskine’s Larissa Shannon (Newberry, SC, Newberry High School) accounted for both the Fleet’s runs in the first game.  Shannon hit a solo home run in the first inning, her 17th of the year.  In the sixth inning with one out, Shannon was intentionally walked for the second time in the game.  With Brooke Benson (Greenville, SC, Berea High School)pinch-running, Morgan Purcell (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) laced a solid single to put runners on first and second.  Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School) followed with a base hit scoring Benson from second for the winning run.  Barton pitcher Emily Jordan retired the next two batters to end the Fleet threat.

Barton tied the game in the fifth inning, scoring an unearned run.  Leading off the inning, Alex Baylis reached on a Fleet fielding error and advanced to third on another Fleet error.  With runners on the corners, Elizabeth Webb laid down a sacrifice bunt and Baylis beat the throw home after the Fleet got Webb out at first.

Erskine pitcherKelsey Spurrier (Charlotte, NC, Butler High School) picked up her 11th win of the season with the complete game four-hitter.  Spurrier allowed the one unearned run while striking out nine and walking just one.

Jordan also went the distance allowing the two runs, both earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Sophomore Whitney Brown (West Columbia, SC, Airport High School) had the fourth hit for the Fleet, going 1 for 2.  For the Bulldogs, Kendall Street went 2 for 3 while Baylis and Webb both had a single each.

Game Two – Box Score

Neither team mounted much offense in the second game.  Barton scored the game’s only run in the third inning with some help from the Fleet.  Heather Gatton reached on a fielding error to start the inning.  Following a strikeout, Gatton was gunned down at third on Baylis’ ground ball.  Baylis stole second and Webb lined Heather Richey’s offering into the left-center gap to score Baylis.  It was the only extra base hit for the Bulldogs on the day.

Meanwhile, Erskine struggled offensively against Barton’s Autumn Pittman.  Pittman threw a five-hit shutout, striking out eleven and walking one.   The Fleet only seriously threatened to score in three innings.  In the first inning, Brown reached on a base hit to left and stole second but advanced no further.  In the next inning, Thornton led off with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice.  With two outs, Jordan Suther (Loganville, GA, South Gwinnett High School)lined a solid single to left but right at the left fielder, who held Thornton at third.  Pittman struck out the next Fleet batter to end the inning.  It wasn’t until the 7th inning that the Fleet had another opportunity to tie the game.  With one out, Ashlyn Hicks (Caycee, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School)  laced a single.  Pittman struck out the next batter but Suther lined another single to left to put runners on first and second.  Pittman again ended the Fleet threat with a strikeout and earn her sixth win of the season.

Richey (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) pitched brilliantly in the loss, going the distance and surrendering the one unearned one on two hits while striking out eight and walking two.

Erskine advances to the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament which is slated to start on Thursday.
