Augusta State Defeats Erskine 13-8

Due West, SC – Augusta State scored eight unanswered runs in the first three innings and went on to a 13-8 victory over Erskine College Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

The Jaguars would get on the board in the top of the second with four runs. Clay Tucker would lead off with a single, and after two walks loaded the bases, Caleb Saggus would be hit by a pitch to force in the first run.  Kevin Dodson would then draw a walk to make it a 2-0 game and then a sacrifice fly by Seth Foster and an RBI single by Curtis Parker would increase the Augusta State (12-29) lead to four.  The Jaguars would add four more runs in the third to make it an 8-0 game.  Erskine (24-16) would get in the board in the bottom of the fourth when Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS) led off with a triple then scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS).  Augusta State would answer with four more runs in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 12-1. 

Zac McCarthy (Lyman, SC, Byrnes HS) would lead off with a single to lead off the bottom of the fifth and then Josh Purvis (Valdosta, GA, Armstrong Atlantic University) and Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) would draw back to back walks to load the bases.  Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would reach base on a fielder’s choice  that would score McCarthy.  Huff would then fly out to center field to score Purvis and then Galliher would double to score Willingham to make it a 12-4 game.  A single by Brandon Wooten (Taylors, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would score Corn and advance Galliher to third.  After a wild pitch scored Galliher, Ross Lisee (Rock Hill, SC, Rock Hill HS) would single to right to score Wooten and make it a 12-7 game.  That would be as close as the Fleet would get as th Jaguars held on for the 13-8 victory.

Wooten was 2-5 with two RBI’s to lead the Fleet at the plate, while Purvis added two hits and Galliher drove in two.  Taylor Ramsey (Richburg, SC, USC Sumter) (1-1) took the loss allowing four runs on two hits in one and one-third innings of work.
