Erskine waits out rain to top Coker 7-2

Hartsville, SC – After waiting out a four hour rain delay, Erskine College topped in-state conference rival Coker College 7-2 in women’s tennis action at the Coker Tennis Courts.  The Flying Fleet remains perfect in conference play at 8-0 and is now 17-3 overall.  For the Cobras, they even their overall record at 7-7 and are now 5-2 in conference.

Erskine leapt out to a 3-0 lead following the doubles matches.  Senior Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) and junior Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) made short work of Faith Baxley and Brittany Yando at #3 doubles winning 3-0.  Erskine completed the sweep by winning the other two doubles matches 8-3 and 8-6.

In singles competition, Erskine quickly won two points to secure the victory as Miller and Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) quickly won their matches 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively.  O’Reilly and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) also won their matches in straight sets while Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) dropped their two matches.

Erskine hosts King College on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in their last home match of the season.
