Hilton Head Island, SC – The Erskine Flying Fleet beat the Knights of Carleton College 6-3 today in non-conference women’s tennis action at the Beach and Tennis Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. With the victory, Erskine climbs to 13-3 overall while Carleton slips to 7-3 on the season.
Erskine had a little more difficulty picking up today’s win. In the doubles matches, Erskine won two of the three matches. At #1 doubles,
Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) and
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) continued their stellar play cruising to an 8-1 win.
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and
Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) dropped their match to Anne Lombardi and Molly Hemes 8-5 at the #2 doubles spot. Erskine also faced a tough match at #3 doubles as
Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and
Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) prevailed 8-5 to stake the Fleet to a 2-1 advantage entering the singles matches.
Erskine won four of the six singles. Hallman won the decisive fifth point rebounding after dropping her first set 2-6 to win the second set and the tie-breaking third set at #1 singles. Prior to that, Rheault tallied the Fleet’s third point at #2 singles blowing past Bridget Doyle in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 while Miller won the Fleet’s fourth point at #6 singles defeating Katherine Greenberg 6-4, 6-0. Goyette kept her personal win streak alive by beating Erin Gudul at #4 singles 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3). Goyette has won her past eight singles matches.
Erskine wraps up their spring break trip to Hilton Head on Saturday when they play DePauw University starting at 3:30 p.m.
