Gaffney, SC – The Flying Fleet continued their shutout streak within the conference demolishing the Saints of Limestone College today 9-0 at the Emmie Evans Rector Courts in women’s tennis action. Erskine remains undefeated in conference play at 6-0 and has yet to surrender a point. Overall Erskine is now 9-2 overall. The Saints suffered their first conference lost and now stand at 3-1 and 3-3 overall.
Erskine swept through doubles play. Senior
Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) and freshman
Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) crushed Jimena Munoz Quiroga and Paige Palinkas 8-1 at #1 doubles while junior
Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and senior
Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) easily rolled past their opponents 8-2. Sophomore
Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and junior
Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) had to work but prevailed 8-5 at #2 doubles to put the Fleet up 3-0.
Erskine also swept through the singles matches. Erskine won five of the six singles matches in straight sets highlighted by Hallman’s shutout (6-0, 6-0) at #1 singles over Jimena Munoz Quiroga. The most exciting match occurred at #5 singles between Stephens and Julia Moreira. Moreira took the first set 7-5 and was close to taking the first point from the Fleet when Stephens rebounded to take a tight second set 7-5. Stephens then prevailed in another highly competitive tie-breaker 10-8 to preserve the Fleet’s shutout streak.
Erskine’s match with Pfeiffer University scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to the weather forecast for the area. No new date has been announced at this time. Please check the Erskine Athletic website for a new date and time.
