Due West, SC – Erskine won for the second day in a row by defeating Belmont Abbey College 9-0 today in Conference Carolinas women’s tennis action at the Erskine Tennis Courts. Erskine is now 2-0 on the season and has yet to drop a match on the young season. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1.
Erskine quickly took a commanding 3-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches 8-3, 8-2 and 8-1.
In the singles matches, Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) and April Horne (Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) shutout their competition 6-0 and 6-0 at the #4 and #6 slots. Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) missed her shutout by dropping one game in the second set, winning 6-0 and 6-1. At the higher seeds, Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Shannon Ramsey at the #3 seed and at #1 singles Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) eliminated Katharine Miller 6-1, 6-3. Senior Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) earned the sweep battling back after dropping the first set 7-6 (7-5) to win the next two sets 6-2 and 1-0 (10-7).
Erskine steps out of conference to host NCAA Division I opponent Gardner-Webb University next Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
Today’s match was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up a day due to the rain forecasted for Saturday.
