Box Score 3 Misenheimer, NC – Erskine College opened up their conference schedule by losing two out of three to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University over the weekend.
In game one, Pfeiffer shut the Fleet out 7-0 behind a complete game shutout by Tyler Ring.
Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) and
Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS) both had two hits Erskine, while
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) and
Josh Purvis (Valdosta, GA, Armstrong Atlantic University) each added a hit.
Kevin Cantrell (Greer, SC, Riverside HS) (0-2) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.
In game two, the Fleet took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Corn. With no one on and two outs in the bottom of the third, Kevin Price would draw a walk and then score on a home run by Jon Gray to take the lead. The Falcons would add four more runs in the inning to increase their lead to 6-1. Erskine would score two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth inning to make it a 6-4 game but Pfeiffer wouls hold on for the win.
Corn was the lone Erskine hitter with two hits, while Purvis, Spence,
Zac McCarthy (Lyman, SC, Byrnes HS), and
Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS) each had one hit.
Robbie Brown (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) (1-1) took the loss allowing five runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.
In the final game of the series, Erskine would take a 1-0 lead in the third when Spence scored on an error by the Falcon first baseman. The Fleet would increase their lead to two in the fifth on a two out double by Willingham that scored
Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS). Pfeiffer would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, but
Heath Gray (Greer, SC, Byrnes HS) would come in with two runners on and one out and retire the next two hitters to end the Falcon rally.
Kit Carter (Duncan, SC, Byrnes HS) (1) would pitch a scoreless ninth inning to give Erskine the 2-1 win.
Willingham was the lone Erskine player with two hits, while,
Logan Galliher (Taylorsville, NC, Alexander Central HS), Yost, and Spence each had one hit. Gray (1-0) picked up the win allowing just two hits and striking out four in 3.2 innings of relief work.
