Due West, SC – The Erskine Flying Fleet lost to the Bulldogs of Wingate University 6-3 in non-conference men’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex. The loss evens the Fleet’s overall record at 2-2 while Wingate improves to 5-2 on the year.
The match was tight through the doubles matches. Erskine won the #1 doubles 8-5 behind a strong performance by seniors
Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and
Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy). Unfortunately, the Fleet could not pull out the other two doubles matches losing 8-5 and 8-6 to trail 2-1 entering the singles competition.
Wingate won four of the six singles matches in straight sets to win the match 6-3. Sophomore
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) won this match against Neal Towlson and freshman
Connor Roy (Greenville, SC, Travelers Rest High School) continued his impressive play with a tight 6-4, 7-5 win over Ryan Forbes.
Erskine travels to Greenwood, South Carolina, on Wednesday to play local in-state rival Lander University.
