Flying Fleet Take Down Anderson 10-4

Box Score Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet scored 10 on 12 hits to take a 10-4 victory over local rival Anderson University Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

The Trojans would get on the board first when Zack Reeves scored on a single by Brett Scarberry in the top half of the first inning.  In the bottom half of the inning, Erskine would load the bases and with one out Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would reach on an error to tie the game up.  Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman HS) would then reach on a fielder’s choice to score a run and Zac McCarthy (Lyman, SC, Byrnes HS) would then hit a double to score two more and make it a 4-1 game after one inning. Both teams would score a run in the second inning and the Trojans (3-10) would add one more in the third to make it a 5-3 game.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, McCarthy would lead off with his second double of the game followed by an infield single by Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS)Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) would then walk to load the bases and Josh Purvis (Valdosta, GA, Armstrong Atlantic University) would follow with a double to right field that scored McCarthy and Herring.  Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) would then single to left to score Yost and give the Fleet a five run lead.  Trailing 8-3 in the top of the eighth, Reeves would connect on a solo home run to left to make it a four run game.  Willingham would answer with a two run bomb in the bottom half to the game to finish out the scoring.

Willingham led the Fleet offense going 3-5 with a home run and three RBI’s, while McCarthy and Purvis both had two hits and two runs batted in.  Tayler Ramsey (Richburg, SC) (1-0) picked up the win allowing no runs on two hits in one and a third inning of relief.

Reeves led the Trojans at the plate going 4-5 with a home run and RBI, while Scarberry and Ryan Kirkland each had two hits. JT Trujillo (1-1) took the loss allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.
