Erskine posts two more shutouts in conference play

Due West, SC – Erskine continued to dominate in conference play winning both matches this weekend over Barton and Mount Olive Colleges 9-0.  The Flying Fleet (4-2, 4-0) have yet to surrender a single point in conference action.

On Friday, the Fleet breezed past the Bulldogs of Barton College.  Erskine opened the match by dominating the three doubles matches.  Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) and Mika Goyette (Brossard, Quebec, Ecole Secondaire De Mortagne) faced the toughest challenge at #1 doubles winning 8-4.  Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) crushed their opponents quickly claiming an 8-1 victory at #2 doubles while Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) teamed up for a convincing 8-2 win over Lindsay Toth and Francesca Del Pozo 8-2.

Erskine swept all six single matches in straight sets.  In fact, Rheault, O’Reilly and April Horne (Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School)won their matches 6-0 and 6-0.

The next day Erskine welcomed the Trojans of Mount Olive College to Due West.   The Trojans were selected to finish third in this year’s conference preseason coaches’ poll.  Again the Fleet leapt out to an early 3-0 lead in the match by claiming all three doubles matches.

In singles play, it appeared Erskine might lose their first point but O’Reilly rallied after losing her first set in the tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5) to convincingly win the second set 6-1 then proceeded to win a marathon third set tie-breaker 13-11 to preserve the Fleet’s shutout streak.

The Fleet return to action Monday afternoon against Wingate University in a non-conference match-up.  Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
