Box Score 2 Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet split a non conference double header Saturday, defeating the Tigers of Stillman 10-0 in game one and losing 6-5 in game two.
Game One
Erskine (4-2) jumped out on top in the bottom of the first inning, when
Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) singled to lead off the game and then scored on a single by
Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS). The Fleet would add to their lead in the fourth on a RBI single by
Phillip Herring (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) and a sacrifice bunt by
Cody Spence (Belton, SC, Belton-Honea Path HS). Erskine exploded for seven runs in the sixth to blow the game wide open and take the victory.
Herring led the offense, going 2-3 with two RBI’s, while
Josh Purvis (Valdosta, GA, Armstrong Atlantic University) was 2-3 with a double and run batted in. Sophomore
Robbie Brown (Dillon, SC, Dillion HS) (1-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season, throwing a complete game shutout. Brown allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters in his seven innings of work and never allowed a runner past second base.

Game Two
The Tigers would score two runs in the top of the first to take the early lead in game two. Erskine would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning when Corn singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Purvis. In the bottom of the third, Corn would tie the game at two when he led off the inning with a solo blast to right field. Stillman would then score a single run in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Will Huff (Sugar Hill, GA, North Gwinette HS) would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two run double and would later score on a passed ball to give the Fleet a one run lead. The Tigers would take advantage of an Erskine error in the top half of the sixth to tie the game at five. The Tigers would add another run in the top of the eighth inning and held on for the one run win.
Huff led the Fleet at the plate going 2-4 with two RBI’s, while Corn was 2-5 with a one run and one run driven in. Taylor Wall (0-1) took the loss allowing one run on two hits in one and one-third innings of work.
