Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet ended the 2011 season with a 13-5 loss to the ninth ranked Patriots of Francis Marion Wednesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.
Francis Marion took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on back to back RBI singles by Tyler Cappelman and Brian Paulhus. The Patriots would tack on two more runs in the third to make it a 4-0 game. In the bottom of the fourth the Fleet would rally to take the lead. After back to back singles by Drew Willingham (Hodges, SC, Greenwood HS) and Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH,Owens CC), Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) would double to score Willingham. Pinch hitter Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) would then hit a two run single to make it a one run game. Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS) would then follow with a triple to tie the game up. Shawn Glover (Columbia, SC, Richland Northeast High School) would then double down the right field line to give Erskine the 5-4 lead. The lead would be short lived as the Patriot offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth and then add two more runs to take the 13-5 victory.
Winckowski led the Fleet at the plate going 2-4with a run scored, while Glover was 2-3 with a double and RBI. Senior Andrew Guest (Easley, SC, Easley High School) (7-4) took the loss allowing four earned runs in four and a third innings pitched with four strikeouts.
